We will continue our tradition of all classrooms reading the same book each month to build our students’ vocabulary and academic language. Our book for this month is “The Little Engine that Could” by Watty Piper. After reading this classic tale, our students will proudly proclaim, “I think I can! I think I can!” This best-selling children’s book of all time is about a little engine who wasn’t afraid to try. Like the little engine, our students will conquer their fears and keep trying when faced with a difficult task. In a college-going culture, our students will develop the confidence to struggle through hard times and learn valuable problem-solving skills.
Poem of the Month
“NO MAN IS AN ISLAND”
No man is an island, no man stands alone
Each man’s joy is joy to me
Each man’s grief is my own
We need one another
So I will defend
Each man is my brother
Each man is my friend.
Song of the Month
“God Bless America”
God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home.
