Book of the Month

Bully B.E.A.N.S.
Author: Julia Cook / Illustrator Anita DuFalla

We will continue our tradition of all classrooms reading the same book each month to build our students’ vocabulary and academic language.  Our book this month will be Bully B.E.A.N.S. written by Julia Cook and illustrated by Anita DuFalla.  The book is a fun story that teaches people of all ages to become proactive when it comes to bullying. This book will help our students understand why bullying happens and what they can do to stop it. This book will also help the bystander learn ways to stand up to a bully.  We are excited to share this story as we continue to promote a bully-free zone at 186th Street School.

Poem of the Month

"September"

by Boni Fulgham

October's the month when the smallest breeze
Gives us a shower of autumn leaves.
Bonfires and pumpkins, leaves sailing down -
October is red and golden and brown.

Song of the Month

God Bless America

God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home.
